What's Happening
HEAR YE! HEAR YE! READ ALL ABOUT IT!

March 21, 2012 marks the 7th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day and for the first time, in 2012, this day will be officially observed by the United Nations. The date (3/21) represents the 3 copies of chromosome 21, which is unique to people with Down syndrome. Each year the voice of people with Down syndrome, and those who love them, live and work with them, grows louder. But there is still so much more we can do. Come CELEBRATE with us and be part of a growing movement to create a single global voice that advocates for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome!
CDS will be CELEBRATING by hosting a kick-off party in anticipation of our 2012 3-2-1 GO! Walk on Saturday May 12th at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster. Please join us at the Roseville Tavern for light refreshments, cake, music and everyone’s favorite, RAFFLES!
You do not want to miss the GREAT prizes. We will also have surprise GUEST SERVERS for those wish to enjoy a delicious dinner at this family friendly restaurant!
EVERYONE is welcome to join the CELEBRATION! Invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and strangers! The more the merrier! Join the WORLD in recognizing these amazing children and adults!
Please check back for updates as they become available!

“Activities and events held on World Down Syndrome Day can have a tremendous impact, showcasing the abilities, talents and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. I encourage you all to tell the World what you are doing to celebrate this important day.”

Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome (D.A.D.S.)
Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome, or D.A.D.S., is an organization of fathers of children who happen to have Down syndrome. We hesitate to call our self a “support group,” even though we do, in many ways, support each other. We prefer to think of D.A.D.S. as an “action group.” You won’t find us in a church basement drinking warm coffee and whining about having children with Down syndrome. Instead, you’ll find us out in the community coaching our kid’s sports teams, participating in our children’s IEPs, volunteering at local Down syndrome fundraising events, and even sponsoring fundraising events of our own.
We host regular meetings where our members come together to share insights and experiences. Face it: there are certain responsibilities that generally fall on the shoulders of the father. Having a child with special needs often affects how we approach those responsibilities. We invite expert speakers to discuss medical, educational, financial, social, and many other issues that affect our children’s lives. And of course, we share stories and experiences that are unique to fathers of children with Down syndrome. Your colleagues at the office may not understand your excitement when your 5 yr old makes “poopie” on the toilet for the first time, but other D.A.D.S. will, because we’ve all been there.
The Lancaster D.A.D.S. group meets monthly. Please check our calendar for dates times and locations
Celebrate Down Syndrome will pay for the meals for first time newcomers to the group. Please contact Marco (717-799-7423) or Jeryl (717-449-0841) if you would like more information about this new group or if you would like to be added to the Lancaster D.A.D.S. membership list. No commitment is necessary. Each month will bring whoever is available and wants to get together with other dads of children with Ds. (Other male relatives are also welcome—adult brothers, uncles, grandfathers, etc.)
